Miami Switches it up With Some Rap

From Miami Music Week
Rolling Loud. Bayfront park is placed in between the beautiful Atlantic ocean and the stimulating city of Miami. You look to your right and you can feel the salty ocean breeze, even taste it. But if you look to your left, you're stunned by shining skyscrapers. And if you tilt your head up, you can feel the radiating Miami sun everyone speaks of. I can happily say I was able to fly from Chicago to Miami with three of my friends to experience this festival. It was May 5th through May 7th, so three days which is typical for
a festival. Not so proud to say I missed my sisters 19th birthday in order to go, but it really shows my dedication to music!

Every single moment of this experience is incredible, probably not as much for the locals of Miami but from a Chicago girl it was unbeatable. Miami is easily accessible from many of its suburbs, so a lot of the festivals go-ers, up to 40,000 people a day, travelled from their homes. Others stayed in hotels or apartments downtown Miami and in South Beach as well. In our case, we saved a truck load of money by staying in a family friend's apartment right on the ocean in South Beach.

There is one entrance for this festival with pretty loose security. They did a quick check of some bags, if necessary, then everyone could swiftly walk through a metal detector and were on their way! Everyone entered through a very tree covered, dusty area until the gates opened up to the large stage with chairs, as you can see in the image above. The other stage was placed directly behind the first (second image) and didn't include chairs only a dirt field; but this one had the best view of the ocean, absolutely breathtaking.

And now we discuss the artists, which were just as breathtaking as the ocean. This was one of the most talked about hip-hop/rap music festivals of all of 2017. A few major headliners consisted of: Kendrick Lamar, Future, Lil Wayne, A$AP Rocky, Travi$ Scott, Young Thug, Post Malone, Lil Uzi Vert, Migos, 21 Savage, Lil Yachty, Joey Badass, Playboi Carti and Chief Keef. For any of you readers out there that know rap, I would bet some good money you just screamed at your screen after reading that INSANE lineup.
From MTN News

Since there were two stages in very close proximity, it was very easy to bounce back and forth between the two in order to fit in all the artists. But it definitely started to get difficult at night when the big artists came on which forced me to choose and stay put at my stage, grasping my spot in the crowd so some beefed up guy didn't shove me over. Which is very easy considering I am not that big.

This festival did create a significant amount of controversy for the city of Miami. A month beforehand, the city threatened the cancel the entire event because they were scared of what this festival would bring to their city. But the advocates and organizers prevailed through the worst and received an unanimous vote from the board to allow the festival for early May. Many locals from Miami were opposed to the festival assuming that the many people who were attending were going to rough up the city or create some problems for them. But because of the revenue that this had the potential of bringing in and the happiness it causes the festival go-ers, the board allowed it to happen.

The fashion was still incredible to observe. It was definitely different than Chicago, it had a lot more of a diversified, ethnic feel to it. Miami New Times created a great slideshow of some people they found to stick out from the rest of the crowd. These people's styles were more representative of themselves and partly representing the artists they went to see. It included a lot of popular brands among rappers like Supreme, Billionaire Boys Club, HUF and Diamond Supply. This festival clearly had a higher attendance of males rather than females but that's expected. I included my own great find; a crazy tattoo on a random girl's back that I just had to ask to take a picture of. It was really cool to be able to go to a whole other city, with very different groups of people that differs greatly from Chicago.

Festival Tip: Narrow down your top artists and make sure to stick to them and follow the times because the good viewing spots are taken up very fast.

A Make-Shift City in the Desert

Burning Man. We're going to go a little off book for this one. This event is more than just a festival, it is a celebration and an experience. 99% of the time when you ask a person, "How was burning man?" they tend to just laugh and say it was great. They laugh because it is so difficult to depict how this experience went without actually being there. So for the duration of this blog I will do my best to explain other's experiences that I've heard and to simply cover the basics. According to Burning Man , the event happens at the end of August/beginning of September, so basically the week prior too and Labor Day weekend. The dates for 2018 event are August 26th to September 3rd. The event is built every year in Black Rock Desert which is around 120 miles away from Reno, Nevada. Usually the general population is 0 for the desert but once the event begins the population spikes to over 70,000 people. From YourEDM From USA Today The word 'built' ...

An Eco Friendly Festival

Bonnaroo. 4 sweaty days in the beginning of June. The grounds open at a fresh 7am Thursday morning and they do not close till Monday at noon. This festival takes place at Great Stage Park, in Tennessee. The park is like a farm and consists of about 650 acres. It wrangles in over 800,000 people over the course of the four days. Its about 65 miles away from Nashville. So it is possible for people to fly from other parts of the country and drive to The Farm; but a majority of the attendees are within a manageable driving distance. The festival definitely differs from the past few I have discussed. It has a lot more of a homier, family feel. Camping is a very large part of the festival because there is plenty of room for large campers. But if you aren't a big nature person, don't worry, there are plenty of hotels. And if you do decide to stay at a hotel, there are direct shuttles to and from The Farm and the hotel of your choice. From Billboard What makes Bonnaroo really di...

A Carnival and Music ?!

Electric Daisy Carnival. 3 days, from dusk till dawn. Yes you read that right. The official gates open at 7 pm and close at 5:30 am the next morning. The festival solely thrives on moonlight. There is a reason that the word 'carnival' is used instead of festival. There are handfuls of extravagant side shows, amusement park rides and light shows. It is known as the largest electronic music festival in the world, wrangling in 400,000 people for the duration of the three days. The carnival happens annually, usually in June, but moved to May this upcoming year, in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Currently there are three other locations: Orlando, Florida, Mexico City, Mexico and Tokyo, Japan. But EDC has traveled across the U.S., the U.K., India and Brazil. From Billboard Electric Daisy Carnival has a very well known and specific feel to it. Their motto pretty much says it all, "All are Welcome Here." On their website they explain that it is imper...
