Chicago Transforms into Lollapaloozaland 2017

Image from Lollapalooza
Lollapalooza. It is as crazy as it sounds. There are over 100,000 people each day that flock to Grant Park in downtown Chicago to experience the infamous music festival. There are eight different stages (even a stage for kids!) with over 170 artists strategically placed throughout the 319 acres that is Grant Park. In addition to all the stages there are over thirty different types of food and drink stands set up along the street. Lolla doesn't have a specific stereotype like other festivals because the music is so diverse along with it being a family friendly environment.

The experience starts for the suburban teens with a walk from the train station after an hour train ride before ten o'clock in the morning; and we all know that is dedication being awake before noon during the summertime. For the lucky ones with apartments or hotels in the city, their mornings start with a walk or an Uber ride to one of the two gates available for entry. The security isn't anything insane, just checking bags and a quick metal and wristband scanner. Then all the festival goers are home free. As you walk down the main street, there are enormous signs, posters, decorations and backdrops for some quirky picture opportunities. All the bright lights and colors make you feel like you're walking through this gated wonderland surrounded by skyscrapers and Lake
Michigan.

Now discussing the most important part, the artists. There were many diverse headliners this past year which brought a lot of different crowds to Lolla. These headliners included: Chance the Rapper, The Killers, Muse, Arcade Fire, The XX, Lorde, Blink-182, DJ Snake, Alt-J, Cage the Elephant, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Foster the people, and those aren't even all of them!

In order to make most people happy, Lolla is designed to have the same types of artists from the same genres on the same set of stages. So someone that is into alternative rock will most likely be spending most of their day at Bud light or Pepsi (farthest stages up). Whereas if you are into Rap or EDM music you will be spending a lot of your day at Perry's or Grant Park (bottom stages), of course in exception to a few artists that are dispersed.

All day, every minute of the day, there are artists playing on any of the stages; so it is entirely up to you and your preferences where you want to start! Then by the end of the day the festival winds down to about four to five stages that host the big headliners until 10 pm when the park closes.

The outfits, oh the outfits are my favorite part, behind the music of course! Many fashion forward people plan very far ahead of time what their outfits will look like. Four days equal four entirely different outfits, so people get very creative. They incorporate never before seen accessories along with body pant, glitter, jewels and some crazy creative hairstyles and makeup. Check out Timeout's best Lolla fashion for a few of the coolest found outfits throughout the festival.

I can easily say that Lolla is the best four days of my summer. It is something my friends and I look forward to all year long. Between planning our outfits and organizing our schedules, the preparation for this music festival is unlike any other. A few of my personal favorite performers from this past year were DJ Snake, 21 Savage, Glass Animals and Lil Yachty.

I included a picture of the henna that my friend and I had drawn on our legs as our own creative personal touches.

Festival Tip: Bring a camelback for your own, what seems like, unlimited water supply.

A Make-Shift City in the Desert

Burning Man. We're going to go a little off book for this one. This event is more than just a festival, it is a celebration and an experience. 99% of the time when you ask a person, "How was burning man?" they tend to just laugh and say it was great. They laugh because it is so difficult to depict how this experience went without actually being there. So for the duration of this blog I will do my best to explain other's experiences that I've heard and to simply cover the basics. According to Burning Man , the event happens at the end of August/beginning of September, so basically the week prior too and Labor Day weekend. The dates for 2018 event are August 26th to September 3rd. The event is built every year in Black Rock Desert which is around 120 miles away from Reno, Nevada. Usually the general population is 0 for the desert but once the event begins the population spikes to over 70,000 people. From YourEDM From USA Today The word 'built' ...

An Eco Friendly Festival

Bonnaroo. 4 sweaty days in the beginning of June. The grounds open at a fresh 7am Thursday morning and they do not close till Monday at noon. This festival takes place at Great Stage Park, in Tennessee. The park is like a farm and consists of about 650 acres. It wrangles in over 800,000 people over the course of the four days. Its about 65 miles away from Nashville. So it is possible for people to fly from other parts of the country and drive to The Farm; but a majority of the attendees are within a manageable driving distance. The festival definitely differs from the past few I have discussed. It has a lot more of a homier, family feel. Camping is a very large part of the festival because there is plenty of room for large campers. But if you aren't a big nature person, don't worry, there are plenty of hotels. And if you do decide to stay at a hotel, there are direct shuttles to and from The Farm and the hotel of your choice. From Billboard What makes Bonnaroo really di...

A Carnival and Music ?!

Electric Daisy Carnival. 3 days, from dusk till dawn. Yes you read that right. The official gates open at 7 pm and close at 5:30 am the next morning. The festival solely thrives on moonlight. There is a reason that the word 'carnival' is used instead of festival. There are handfuls of extravagant side shows, amusement park rides and light shows. It is known as the largest electronic music festival in the world, wrangling in 400,000 people for the duration of the three days. The carnival happens annually, usually in June, but moved to May this upcoming year, in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Currently there are three other locations: Orlando, Florida, Mexico City, Mexico and Tokyo, Japan. But EDC has traveled across the U.S., the U.K., India and Brazil. From Billboard Electric Daisy Carnival has a very well known and specific feel to it. Their motto pretty much says it all, "All are Welcome Here." On their website they explain that it is imper...
